Sherry Barker
Creative/Pre-Ballet/Adult & Advanced Tap
“Miss Sherry” has over 40 years teaching experience in ballet, jazz and tap with children and adults ages 3 to 73. She has been the owner and operator of Dawn at Pleasantburg Academy of Dance in Greenville (four years), and has taught at Rehearsal Hall at Presbyterian College in Clinton (12 years), Converse College Pre-College Dance Department (11 years), and Ballet Spartanburg (29 years). Miss Sherry was also Ballet Spartanburg’s Dance Center Administrative Director from 1979 to 1996.
She was the founder and Director of the Sherry Jones Dancers, a jazz dance troupe that performed from 1980 to 1996, and the Tap Dames which was formed in 2000. She has choreographed and performed in over 20 musicals and operas in her 41 year career at Spartanburg Little Theater, Greenville Little Theater, Spartanburg Repertory Company, Spartanburg High School Drama Department, Broome High School Chorus, USC Upstate and she was the official choreographer for the Miss Spartanburg Pageant for five years.
Miss Sherry currently teaches Creative Dance, Pre-Ballet and Adult Tap. She continues to perform with her Tap Dames in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia throughout the year. Does she love to dance? “You bet cha!!”
